Marc LOUIS MADER has created an exceptional object for an exceptional BMW: a solid silver BMW Z8 plaque. This object is intended to permanently embody the prestige of the BMW Z8. The BMW Z8 is a hand-crafted car, just like this solid silver plaque measuring 100 x 60 mm and 4 mm thick. This piece of art measures 100 mm by 60 mm with a depth of 4 mm. Available in a limited edition of 5703 pieces, corresponding to the number of cars built. Each plate is engraved with the corresponding VIN serial number of the owner’s car. After the book and the scale model, this accessory is the must-have item associated with the BMW Z8. This rare object is presented in a box produced in collaboration with the historic manufacturer of a famous and prestigious French brand. The box features a mix of metal attributes and matte-black-tinted poplar composite, reminiscent of the wood used in today’s BMWs. Silver metallic branding is applied to the front and top of the case, reproducing the mythical BMW Z8 model.

I am proud to own one of the iconic BMW Z8s, and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the BMW Z8, I have created this solid silver plaque.

An exceptional object for an exceptional BMW.

This 25 YEARS OF BMW Z8 collector’s box embodies the quality and prestige of craftsmanship, honoring the BMW Z8 legacy.

The solid silver plaque is hand crafted by master silversmiths in France and Germany, with the same care and expertise that BMW had applied in hand finishing the BMW Z8 in their Munich plant.

This piece of art measures 100 mm by 60 mm with a depth of 4 mm.

As an homage to the number of BMW Z8 cars ever produced by BMW, this plaque is limited to 5,703 pieces.

Each plaque will be engraved with the VIN number corresponding to the owner’s car, taking exclusivity to the highest level. No plaque will be delivered without a verified VIN number.

I asked the historic manufacturer of the most famous and prestigious French luxury brand to create a corresponding case in black-stained poplar, reminiscent of the wood used in today’s BMWs. This case measures 23 x 16.5 x 8.5 mm and is graced by a silver illustration of our BMW Z8.

Forging the exceptional

The creation of a solid silver plaque is a delicate process that requires a perfect mastery of traditional craftsmanship. The manufacturing of high-precision tools, combined with rigorous control at every stage, ensures the excellence of each “25 YEARS OF BMW Z8” plaque.

Behind the Scenes

Discover the various stages involved in the creation of the “25 YEARS BMW Z8” silver plaque. Each image highlights a key step in the process, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail devoted to each piece.

  • Embossing Dies:

    The embossing dies define the shape of the plaque. The design is first created digitally, then pre-milled onto the die and adjusted by hand.

  • Hardening:

    Made from tool steel, the die is hardened at 950°C for more than five hours to withstand the significant pressures exerted during the embossing process.

  • Shaping the Silver: Strength in the Service of Precision

    The production of the silver plaques begins with the embossing. The die is placed in a press that imprints the relief design onto the silver plaque with a pressure of 1,000 tons. Eight embossing passes are required to achieve a flawless relief. The design is transferred from the die to the silver plaque under the pressure exerted by the press.

  • Annealing: Softening the Silver

    After being embossed, the silver is rigid and therefore has to be annealed at 700°C in a special oven to become malleable again. After 20 minutes in the oven, the silver is mouldable enough and can be processed further.

  • Electrolytic Cleaning:

    The plaque is carefully cleaned and prepared for the final manufacturing step.

  • Polishing:

    The final polishing brings back the characteristic shine of the silver after the embossing process.

  • Finishing: invisible protection to preserve your plaque

    A fine layer of varnish is applied to the plaque in order to protect it from scratches and dirt, without altering its natural shine. This step ensures the product’s durability and exceptional quality.
